IPL
IPL or Intense Pulsed Light offers a safe, long term, effective solution for Hair Removal, Skin Rejuvenation, Pigmentation, Acne and Rosacea and Thread Veins.
A thorough consultation is carried out pre treatment in which medical history is taken to confirm client suitability, followed by a patch test. Treatment may then be carried out after seven days.
Multiple treatments are required at intervals usually from 4 to 8 weeks.
HAIR REMOVAL
The treatment works as the light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, causing it to heat up and destroy itself without damage to surrounding cells. The treatment works best on coarse, dark hair and will not be effective on white, blonde, grey or red hair.
Before treatment it is necessary to shave the area. This is essential as the energy from the light needs to be directed under the skin to the root. A thin layer of gel is applied to the area to help absorb all the light and then short pulses of light are directed at the skin until the whole area has been treated. The sensation is normally described as the flick of an elastic band and most clients describe the discomfort as moderate. The skin may be red after treatment. This subsides quickly and adverse reactions are rare.
The hair usually falls out around 2 weeks after treatment. Hair in the full growth stage (anagen) will not grow back but subsequent treatments are required for a satisfactory result. An average number of treatments is 6, but areas of the body and different clients vary in the number required.
Prices start at £40 per session for Upper Lip and most areas of the body can be treated except eyebrows. A £20 fee is charged for the patch test appointment which is redeemable against treatment and courses of 4 are available at a discount.

THREAD VEINS, ACNE & ROSACEA
For thread veins and rosacea, light is readily absorbed by the blood vessels, heating them to a point where they are destroyed. Following treatment, the vessels quickly clear as they are reabsorbed by the body. After treatment the area may feel warm for a few hours and the vessels may darken temporarily and in some cases some delicate areas such as cheeks can be red or slightly swollen for 48 hours.
Usually 3 to 5 treatments are needed and in some cases results are not seen until after the second session.
For acne, the light directly targets overactive sebaceous glands, greatly reducing the total number and severity of active lesions, and lessening the inflammation and occurrence of break outs. The light stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin texture, and can also reduce the appearance of red or brown areas of skin that are often associated with acne breakouts. IPL may be combined with chemical peels and microdermabrasion for maximum results usually for 12 weeks alternating the treatments.

PIGMENTATION
IPL systems release short pulses of filtered light that is readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin found in sun spots, freckles or liver spots. The rapid absorption of light energy heats the melanin and causes a destruction of the cells. The treatment area may feel warm and sensitive for the first few days post treatment and the lesions will darken and may appear more obvious before they fade and flake away. The number of treatments will depend on the type and size of pigmented area but usually 1 to 3 sessions are required.
Prices start at £20 for individual spot treatments to £75 for a whole face. A £20 fee is charged for the patch test appointment which is redeemable against treatment.
SKIN REJUVENATION
The Intense Pulsed Light releases short pulses of filtered light that stimulate the fibroblast cells within the skin that produce collagen and elastin. In addition, specific lesions such as thread veins, freckles and age spots can be targeted creating a more uniform complexion. The skin becomes firmer, appears more radiant and enlarged pores are reduced.
A photo facial consists of a cleanse followed by exfoliation. This maximises the result of the Intense Pulsed Light. After light treatment a mask is applied to hydrate and cool the skin.
Prices start at £130 for a single treatment and £465 for a course of four at monthly intervals. A fee of £20 is charged for the patch test appointment which is redeemable against treatment.
